What's Happening with the EIS?

On June 30, 2008, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation's (RIAC) Board of Directors approved the inclusion of a second 8,700 foot runway alternative for Runway 5-23 in the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This provides authorization for the FAA to study and assess the environmental impacts of this new alternative, which retains the previously approved 8700 foot length for Runway 5-23, with a shift in direction. For more information, see the June 30, 2008 EIS Press Release, below.

In the upcoming months, the EIS Team will be evaluating the environmental consequences of the new 8,700-foot alternative, as we move closer to the selection of a preferred alternative. We look forward to sharing the results of these environmental analyses and hearing your input. (Last updated: 06/30/2008)

The T.F. Green Airport Improvement Program

T.F. Green Airport (the Airport) in Warwick, Rhode Island is the primary commercial service airport serving the State of Rhode Island and an area that stretches into southeastern Massachusetts and eastern Connecticut. In 2004 the Airport served over 5.5 million air passengers; an updated passenger forecast indicates that this demand level will continue to grow and by 2020 is anticipated to almost double to 8.9 million annual passengers. The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) is proposing the T.F. Green Airport Improvement Program to address existing facility needs and projected demand at the Airport. The FAA is in the process of preparing a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which conducts an independent environmental review of the Improvement Program and its alternatives to understand effects on the environment.
