Transportation Management Centers

Nationwide

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is constantly striving to make America’s roadways safer, more efficient, and more user-friendly. VHB shares this mission; for several years, we’ve been working with the FHWA’s Office of Operations to support the development of policies, programs, and projects that help local, regional, and state DOTs.

Transportation management centers (TMCs) are the brains behind every major transportation network. To optimize TMC activities, VHB teamed with the FHWA to develop an approach and a guide for fostering a coordinated system of incident management for facilities with managed lanes. The guide provides a framework for successfully developing and implementing traffic incident management practices that can be implemented from TMCs within the managed lane operating environment. It included best practices and case studies from various locations across the United States.
