College of William & Mary Memorial to the Enslaved

Williamsburg, VA

Hearth is William & Mary’s new memorial to enslaved African Americans. Working in partnership with Baskervill, the team provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services. Design included a plaza at the memorial and a small amphitheater-like earthen mound with inset seat walls, all enclosed by a canopy of mature trees.
