The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute

Williamstown, MA

For more than 60 years, The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute (The Clark) has been instrumental in contributing to the cultural reputation of the Berkshire Region in Western Massachusetts, as a public art museum and a center for research and higher education. The Clark selected VHB as part of a team to provide transportation services for its expansion. The first phase of the expansion, the 32,000-square-foot Stone Hill Center opened in June 2008 and features galleries, classrooms, and the Williamstown Art Conservation Center. Phase II of the expansion will include a second new building, the Exhibition, Visitor, and Conference Center, which will feature special exhibitions and provide additional space for conferences. The initial master plan for the 140-acre site and the subsequent facility expansions have reinforced the visitor experience, improved circulation, and significantly advanced sustainability goals.
