Peabody Essex Museum

Salem, MA

Located on the historic Salem waterfront, the Peabody Essex Museum houses a world-renowned art collection in several mansions surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds. The museum was founded in 1799 and is the country’s oldest operating museum.

VHB assisted with the 70,000-square-foot expansion of its existing exhibition facilities. This expansion accommodates additional galleries, an orientation atrium, public program space, an interior pedestrian walkway, a new landscaped plaza for pedestrian orientation and linkage with Derby Street and the Salem waterfront, expanded exterior landscape and garden area, and exhibit support space.
