Central Business District Downtown Traffic Circulation Study

Nashua, NH

As an update to the 2015 Downtown Circulation Study, VHB conducted a new study to identify potential strategies to improve roadway and intersection traffic flow and mobility, strengthen pedestrian and bicycle connections, and enhance accessibility for residents and businesses in the City of Nashua’s Central Business District. The new study included analyzing a temporary road diet for dining on Main Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway, a newly constructed bypass road.

Driven by Nashua’s desire to draw people downtown, the study analyzed existing traffic volume demands and flow patterns, including seasonal variations, and traffic operations. The project team developed alternatives for one-way and two-way roads and presented them during public meetings. Suggested improvements included eliminating one-way street patterns and installing traffic circles to promote traffic calming.
