This week, New England Energy Market Leader Seth Lattrell spoke at BisNow’s Sustainability and Energy Conference, sharing insights on how VHB is incorporating renewable energy resources into our consulting services. The conference featured Boston’s policy makers, developers, planners, and more, who discussed integrating renewable energy, electrification, and smart design for the City's next era.

Seth joined three other panelists for a discussion on “Leveraging Renewable Energy Sources,” focusing on evaluating pathways to utilize next-generation renewable technologies. Seth highlighted some opportunities that renewables can unlock, including lowered operating costs, market differentiation to attract tenants and investors, and strengthened resilience and reliability.

Expanding on what government agencies can do better to advance renewable initiatives, Seth emphasized the need for modernized zoning and land-use regulations, streamlined permitting and review processes, and increased incentives to encourage renewable energy projects.

Seth also discussed how VHB helps clients identify ways to incorporate renewables as part of their energy, sustainability, or carbon-reduction goals—from site selection and permitting to infrastructure design, resilience planning, and environmental review.

“For us at VHB, renewable energy isn’t a side service. It’s part of how we future-proof every project,” said Seth. “The opportunity is more than just cleaner power—it’s smarter, more resilient, and more valuable development.”
