Boston, MA

June 19, 2025

Worcester Director of Land Development Brittany Gesner led an insightful conversation on repurposing existing assets at BisNow’s Boston Adaptive Reuse and Conversions Conference. The event brought together Boston’s policy makers, investors, developers, planners, and more for a discussion on the opportunities available to provide more housing through converting assets.

Highlighting the positive long-term impact that asset conversions have on neighborhood growth, experts shared insights on financial considerations, key building attributes, and Boston’s office-to-residential conversion program.

Brittany led a Fireside Chat with Larry Curtis, President of WinnDevelopment, titled “From Challenge to Completion: Successfully Executing Adaptive Reuse Projects.” Their conversation focused on what developers and planners need to navigate conversion projects, including how to creatively solve design challenges, overcome capital hurdles, and reinvigorate neighborhoods through the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and infrastructure.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to highlight adaptive reuse,” said Brittany. “VHB’s strong partnerships with developers like Winn have been instrumental in bringing these projects to fruition. Our creative approaches to place making and understanding of local regulations allow us to maximize these existing neighborhood assets for their next phase of utilization.”
