New Center for Women and Families Breaks Ground

Orlando, FL

November 05, 2026

The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida broke ground on a major expansion project that will modernize and double capacity for its downtown Orlando property. VHB provided planning and engineering services to support the expansion project and help advance the Coalition’s mission to provide services and shelter for women, children, and families experiencing homelessness.

The new development will transform the property and include a six-story Women and Families building and the infrastructure for a future two-story administrative building. It will also include parking improvements, access connections to existing facilities, and critical drainage and utility infrastructure upgrades.

VHB's experience with both the Coalition and downtown Orlando has helped the project move forward. Leading VHB's team is Jaime Igua, PE, who previously served as the lead engineer for the Coalition's Men’s Service Center expansion project in 2012-2013.

“After working with the Coalition on an earlier expansion project, it’s rewarding to remain part of their journey and help bring the Center for Women and Families vision to life,” said Jaime. "Our team designed a project that supports the Coalition's goals and needs, meets complex permitting requirements, and embraces the surrounding infrastructure.”

The new Center for Women and Families will expand access to housing, healthcare, meals, and supportive services, creating a vital resource for individuals and families. Through thoughtful planning and engineering, VHB is helping advance a project that will strengthen the community and improve quality of life in downtown Orlando.
