
VHB welcomes Ernesto (Ernie) Larrazabal, PE, as a Senior Transportation Engineer based in our New York City office. With 38 years of experience delivering impactful civil infrastructure projects, Ernie strengthens VHB’s ability to advance critical transportation initiatives across the Northeast and other regions.
In this role, he will collaborate with teams across VHB on a wide range of public infrastructure improvements, driving thoughtful solutions that promote mobility, connectivity, and long-term performance.
Prior to VHB, Ernie served as Technical Lead at CHA Consulting and spent more than three decades with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), including time as Chief Civil Engineer. His career highlights include large public infrastructure projects at regional international and domestic airports, marine and port facilities, and commercial developments. Ernie also has a strong background in pavement engineering and management, airfield and roadway design, rail systems, utility infrastructure, site development, and stormwater management.
Known for his hands-on, collaborative style, Ernie works closely with multidisciplinary teams and agency stakeholders to adeptly move projects from concept through completion. His approach emphasizes practical, buildable designs that consider long-term maintenance, safety, and sustainability.

A licensed Professional Engineer in New York and New Jersey, Ernie holds a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Master’s in Business Management from Stevens Institute of Technology. He remains committed to delivering thoughtful, durable infrastructure that supports the region’s growing transportation needs.
