Jupiter Power recently secured zoning exemptions from the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board (EFSB) for a new battery energy storage system (BESS) in Everett, Massachusetts. The project, known as Trimount ESS, repurposes a former ExxonMobil oil terminal into a 700 MW BESS that will store energy and enhance the resilience of the regional electrical grid.
VHB supported Jupiter Power in obtaining the zoning exemptions from the EFSB, helping move the project forward. Our role included civil engineering and testimonial support, as well as navigating complex local and state permitting processes. Going forward, we will continue to support Jupiter Power with owner’s engineer advisory services as the project advances through final design and construction.
The project will improve the reliability of the electrical grid, generate tax revenue for Everett, and support decarbonization and improved air quality. Once complete, Trimount ESS will be one of the largest BESS in the Northeast.
