Lou Bekofsky Joins Board of Directors, Real Estate Institute at Stony Brook University

Lou Bekofsky, Director of Environmental Planning, has joined the Board of Directors of the Real Estate Institute (REI) at Stony Brook University. REI supports the unique needs of Long Island’s real estate professionals and the associated industries they serve. The Institute is affiliated with the College of Business at Stony Brook University and is served by its Board of Directors, who provide mentorship, education, and thought leadership on different topics which impact real estate on Long Island.

“The real estate market on Long Island is notoriously complex, which is why organizations like REI are extremely important for future development and equitable community planning,” said Lou. “I’m especially proud to represent VHB on REI’s Board and will focus on tackling the issues that impact the real estate community and create barriers to investments in new, mixed-use development and multifamily housing throughout Long Island.”

Lou brings more than a decade of public and private sector experience to the Board. As Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development and Planning for Suffolk County, as well as Executive Director/CEO of the Suffolk County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), Lou worked to create partnerships between real estate, government, and community stakeholders across Long Island to advance regionally transformative projects. At VHB, Lou leverages his in-depth knowledge of local government and the State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) process to help clients navigate the region’s complex entitlement process and obtain necessary approvals.

REI hosts symposiums, panel discussions, and events which are a valued resource for professional career development and offers hands-on training and networking opportunities for future graduates, and entrants into the real estate industry. To see upcoming events, visit REI’s event page.
