A recent groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction on the long-anticipated Mary Ellen McCormack Redevelopment’s first phase. The project’s initial development will include a 94-unit building that will provide affordable new homes for current residents, a new park, bike lane, and other amenities. VHB led the project’s review processes for the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA), and Boston Article 80 Large Project permits.
VHB is collaborating with WinnCompanies and the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) to provide construction design and site work services for the overall 3,300-unit complex, which will be a vibrant, mixed-income, mixed-use Community of Opportunity centering sustainability, accessibility, and community connection.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Congressman Stephen Lynch, WinnCompanies CEO Gilbert Winn, and other officials spoke at the ceremony. Project Manager Sarah Ebaugh also attended the event and reflected on the redevelopment’s significance to the community.

“This is an exciting day for our team,” said Sarah. “We’re proud to be contributing to this project that will bring numerous public benefits to the Boston community, including critically needed affordable housing.”
