VHB has been selected by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to provide on-call design and construction phase services supporting bus infrastructure improvements across the region. The contract supports implementation of the MBTA’s Better Bus Network, which is focused on improving service reliability, accessibility, and the overall customer experience. Work under the on-call includes street level infrastructure improvements that help buses operate more reliably, along with enhancements to bus stops, stations, shelters, and passenger amenities.

The selection reflects VHB’s continued investment in bus infrastructure planning and design, as well as the firm’s growing role supporting transit agencies as they expand and modernize bus networks. In recent years, VHB has supported bus projects as both a prime consultant and subconsultant, building experience across planning, design, construction support, and implementation.

“The MBTA is making a sustained investment in its bus network, and this contract allows us to support that effort through both design and implementation,” said Transit & Rail Project Manager Maggie Maddox, who leads VHB’s bus infrastructure work in New England. “It’s an opportunity to help advance projects that improve reliability, accessibility, and the experience for people who rely on bus service every day.”

Through this contract, VHB will work in close coordination with the MBTA to advance bus infrastructure projects that support frequent, reliable service and improve access for riders throughout the system.
