Several VHBers joined a full room of industry leaders in Boston for the 28th annual The Engineering Center Education Trust (TECET) Leadership Dinner, where Chair and CEO Mike Carragher was honored with the TECET Leadership Award. The recognition celebrates Mike’s visionary leadership and his impact on the engineering profession and the Greater Boston region.
A steward of VHB’s generational company, Mike has honored the legacy of VHB’s founders while helping shape the firm’s future through bold strategy and a consistent focus on clients and people. He built a strong leadership team that helped guide VHB through significant industry change while empowering the next generation of leaders across the company.
During Mike’s 11 years as President and CEO, VHB significantly expanded its prominence throughout the Eastern U.S., tripled in size, surpassed $500 million in annual revenue, and was recognized among the country’s best-managed companies, an honor awarded by The Wall Street Journal and Deloitte Private for excellence in strategy, execution, culture, and governance.
Mike’s leadership extends beyond VHB. As Chair of the ACEC Research Institute, he helped lead its largest initiative, Firm of the Future, bringing industry leaders together to envision what engineering firms could look like in 2035. At VHB, he championed three Strategic Plans that fueled growth and accelerated the adoption of new technologies. He has also represented the consulting engineering community on a global stage, advocating for sustainability and the role engineering plays in improving quality of life.
Reflecting on the honor, Mike shared: “From VHB’s founders, Rich Hangen and Bob Brustlin, I learned that leadership is first and foremost about service, and that success is always shared. I’m grateful for this community’s shared commitment to lifting one another up—especially my colleagues at VHB. I’m proud of the role we play together in advancing our consulting engineering industry in pursuit of improving the quality of life in our firms and our communities.”
Congratulations, Mike, on this well-deserved recognition.
