Norwalk Brownfields Inventory and Dashboard Project Wins ACE Award

The Connecticut Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE) acknowledged the Norwalk Brownfields Inventory and Dashboard project with an Achievement in Civil Engineering (ACE) Award. This honor recognizes significant or innovative projects in Connecticut, highlighting the design and construction achievements of the state’s civil engineers.

Planning & Design Senior Project Manager Ken Schwartz, Environmental Scientist Neal Hulstein, and Senior Urban Planner/Technologist Andrew Buck attended the ceremony to accept the award on behalf of the project team, led by Project Manager and Director of Environmental Services Amy Vaillancourt.

“We’re honored to receive this recognition,” said Amy. “The Dashboard will be transformational for Norwalk’s sustainability goals and will continue to make environmental and economic data accessible citywide.”

Developing an inventory for a 1,000-acre area in Norwalk with approximately 15 confirmed and 85 potential brownfield sites, VHB created a GIS-based brownfields inventory dashboard that gives city staff, community members, and development partners a data-driven tool to filter priority sites and strategically allocate funding to revitalize them.
