The Sleepy Hollow Climate Action Plan represents a pivotal initiative by the Village of Sleepy Hollow, aiming to create a sustainable and climate-resilient future. By addressing climate change through targeted mitigation and adaptation strategies, the plan prioritizes smart communities, equitable transitions, and sustainability.
In collaboration with the Village, VHB is central to developing a roadmap for achieving sustainability and resiliency, which includes assessing greenhouse gas emissions, evaluating climate vulnerabilities, and crafting robust decarbonization and adaptation strategies. A crucial component is the Climate Vulnerability Assessment (CVA), identifying and evaluating potential climate impacts on infrastructure, ecosystems, public health, and the local economy. The plan builds on previous efforts like greenhouse gas emission inventories and the establishment of a Climate Smart Task Force and Environmental Advisory Committee. Regional resiliency workshops have informed this strategy, setting clear goals and greenhouse gas reduction targets.
Community involvement is key to this project. VHB and the Village have hosted workshops and engagement opportunities to educate the community about climate change and empower individuals to take action. A digital platform, sleepyhollowclimate.com, was developed for interactive data presentation and community interaction.
