Lexington Townwide Bike and Pedestrian Plan

Lexington, MA

VHB completed a townwide bicycle and pedestrian plan for the historic Town of Lexington, which entailed the development of a seamless network of shared-use paths, walking trails, sidewalks, crosswalks, and on-street bike facilities. One key goal of the plan was to enhance connectivity to schools and business districts through the elimination of sidewalk gaps and improvements to nearby intersections. To assist the Town with phasing and prioritization, VHB developed an evaluation matrix for the nearly 300 individual infrastructure recommendations. The evaluation process incorporated the plan’s eight goals as criteria from which to establish scores for each individual recommendation. The final report included active transportation policy and program recommendations to supplement pedestrian and bicycle network improvements. The Town has moved forward with implementing the plan’s recommendations and making the community safer and more accessible for pedestrians, bicyclists, and micromobility users.
