Last week, our team led thoughtful discussions on innovative transportation solutions and leadership within the industry at the WTS Connecticut Transportation Mini-Series. Now in its 20th year, this annual conference offers a valuable platform for sharing forward-thinking ideas, professional growth opportunities, and the latest trends that are shaping the transportation industry.
New England Regional Manager Meredith Avery spoke on the Signature Leadership Plenary Session, “Connecting Transportation Professionals Across New England.” The panel featured senior leaders from across the transportation industry who shared their perspectives on leadership, mentorship, and sponsorship strategies.
"One of the most rewarding aspects of being this far along in my career is the opportunity to start to pay forward all the guidance and mentorship I have received,” said Meredith. “I hope the people whom I connect with benefit as much as I have from the mentors and sponsors who have supported me throughout my career. Project Manager & Carbon Reduction Lead Ken Donald and Transportation Engineer Cierra Naugler presented “Weaving Embodied Carbon into the Project Narrative We Already Write,” an interactive learning session that focused on understanding embodied carbon and carbon management strategies. Their presentation included an engaging “design decision” game to demonstrate how to create lower-carbon, cost-effective, and buildable designs. Attendees worked through common bridge design decisions—selecting beam types, span configurations, and material options for a virtual project—and discovered how each choice affects embodied carbon, cost, and construction schedule.
