VHB is pleased to announce the appointment of John Hapkiewicz as the Managing Director of the Wethersfield, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts offices. In this pivotal role, Hapkiewicz will lead VHB’s efforts to help strengthen the state’s transportation and energy infrastructure, and partner with municipalities and developers to expand housing and enhance quality of life for community members.
Hapkiewicz joined VHB last year as Director of Transportation in Connecticut, leveraging nearly 30 years of transportation engineering and leadership experience to enhance collaboration with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), municipalities, and construction partners. His career began as a project engineer at CTDOT and the professional relationships he has since cultivated have been integral to his work on several high-profile bridge and transportation projects throughout the Northeast. In just over a year, he has been instrumental in adding nearly 30 structures engineers to VHB’s team and significantly growing the office’s transportation market revenue.
Hapkiewicz steps into the Managing Director role with 25 years of prior leadership experience as Vice President at consulting firms Jacobs and AECOM. Hapkiewicz succeeds Robin Bousa, a distinguished leader who is retiring later this year after a remarkable 30-year tenure at VHB.
“I’m honored to step into this leadership role and continue the good work begun by my predecessor,” says Hapkiewicz. “The team’s growth over the past year, embrace of new technologies, and recommitment to delivering innovative, timely, cost-effective solutions to our clients—these are solid fundamentals that I can leverage to help reenforce VHB’s position as a leading engineering consultancy in Connecticut and beyond.”
