VHB to Support MTA Bridges and Tunnels ITS Program

Advancing technology to support safety and mobility across New York.

May 13, 2026

VHB has been selected by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority (MTA Bridges and Tunnels) to provide on-call Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and operations systems design support across its bridge and tunnel facilities.

Serving some of the most heavily traveled facilities in the region, MTA Bridges and Tunnels manages infrastructure that carries hundreds of millions of vehicle trips each year. Keeping that system running smoothly depends on technology that can monitor conditions in real time, communicate across facilities, and support quick, coordinated responses.

VHB will support planning, design, testing, and implementation of ITS and communications systems that improve real-time monitoring, incident response, traveler information, and overall system performance. These upgrades will help roadway users make informed decisions, support emergency response, and strengthen operational coordination across facilities and throughout the region.

“Every trip across these facilities depends on resilient, secure communication systems working behind the scenes,” said Hadi Meshgi, Transit Communications and Systems Engineering Lead at VHB. “This work will help give MTA Bridges and Tunnels better visibility and control, which ultimately improves reliability for the millions of people using these crossings.”

The assignment builds on VHB’s long-standing collaboration with the MTA and reflects the firm’s continued focus on transportation technology that supports safety, mobility, and operational efficiency.
