VHB is proud to celebrate Nancy Barker, PWS, Senior Vice President, Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, and Federal Market Leader, who was recognized by Virginia Business with a 2025 Women in Leadership Award. Nancy is one of 45 women from across the Commonwealth recognized for their leadership, professional excellence, and lasting contributions to their industries and communities. She was recognized at an evening reception on October 6.
“Nancy and I have worked together for more than 30 years, and she has always been a true partner in growing VHB’s impact across the Mid-Atlantic,” said Steve Thomas, VHB Senior Vice President. “She has long been a steadfast advocate for women’s advancement at VHB and is always looking for ways to help others grow and lead. Through her purpose-driven leadership, Nancy has built a culture where technical excellence and creative thinking thrive, inspiring people to think deeply, gain confidence, and bring their best every day.”
Since joining VHB in 1989, Nancy has held key leadership roles, including Williamsburg Office Manager, Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, and Senior Vice President. She has also served as Federal Market Leader since 2010 and, beginning in January 2026, will dedicate her focus to leading this market firmwide.
As Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, Nancy’s early focus on client service and market expansion laid the foundation for what would become one of VHB’s most dynamic regions. Under her leadership, the Mid-Atlantic grew from a single office in Williamsburg into a thriving, multi-state operation spanning Virginia Beach, Richmond, Tysons, Washington, DC, Raleigh, and Charlotte—with more than 430 team members today. Her ability to unite people, expand services, and anticipate client needs has left a lasting impact on VHB’s growth trajectory.
In her role as Federal Market Leader, Nancy will continue to strengthen VHB’s national presence by building enduring partnerships with key agencies and advancing initiatives that support infrastructure modernization, resiliency, and mission-critical operations across the country. Her foresight and ability to anticipate federal priorities have positioned VHB as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to agencies shaping the future of the built and natural environment.
