Elected officials from the state of Rhode Island and the City of Providence, along with Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Director Peter Alviti, Jr., celebrated the ribbon cutting of the I-95 Providence Viaduct Northbound project on Friday, January 23, according to an official press release.
VHB attended the ceremony to commemorate our working on the I-95 Providence Viaduct, including the northbound portion. “It’s great to see years of work and the contributions of dozens of transportation professionals result in such impactful infrastructure improvements,” said Jeff Klein, Director of Transportation in VHB’s Providence office, who attended the ribbon-cutting and supported the I-95 Providence Viaduct project throughout its lifecycle.
“Congratulations to RIDOT and the many elected officials who helped secure funding and bring this project to fruition,” said VHB President Bill Ashworth, who worked on the I-95 Providence Viaduct project during his tenure as VHB’s Providence Director of Transportation. “VHB is proud of our work on the project and our history of helping Rhode Island improve mobility and enhance communities.”
The I-95 Providence Viaduct carries more than 220,000 vehicles per day on busy I-95 over the Woonasquatucket River, Amtrak Northeast Corridor, highway ramps, and local city streets through the heart of downtown Providence. VHB performed inspection, alternatives analysis, and final design of the viaduct’s southern bound and served as Owner’s Representative for the design-build of the northern bound.
