VHB Florida & Georgia Events Celebrate Bicycling & Active Transportation

VHBers biked throughout the Southeast, embracing mobility in our communities.

In October, VHB’s Orlando and Atlanta offices promoted safer, more inclusive mobility by participating in community cycling events—Orlando’s Bike 5 and Atlanta’s Biketober challenge. These initiatives brought together VHB employees and local organizations to champion active transportation.

In Orlando, VHB sponsored the event and rode alongside participants at Bike 5, organized by Bike Walk Central Florida. This event aims to make biking accessible to everyone, welcoming families, children, and seasoned cyclists alike. Participants chose between a scenic 30-mile Bike 5 Cities route or a new 10-mile Bike 5 Main Streets route, both designed to emphasize safety and connectivity throughout Central Florida.

Lorie Matejowsky, Katie Shannon, and Brendan Guess shared bike safety tips and cooling towels with riders at VHB’s Bike 5 booth.

“It’s always rewarding to see families and individuals come together to embrace biking as a part of their daily lives,” said Brendan Guess, VHB Program Manager. “By supporting Bike 5, we’re helping make active transportation a real and enjoyable option for all.”

Atlanta’s Biketober, organized by Love to Ride and sponsored by Georgia Commute Options, offered a citywide challenge lasting throughout October and rallied VHB staff to participate alongside other architecture and engineering firms. Cyclists of all experience levels logged rides through the Love to Ride app, promoting carbon reduction, healthy living, and the spirit of friendly competition. VHB coordinated group rides including tours of new bicycle infrastructure designed by VHB staff, such as the East Campus Streetscape/Techwood Drive Cycle Track on Georgia Tech’s campus and the 10th Street Cycle Track adjacent to Piedmont Park. Beyond the group rides, VHB hosted special events including a festive Halloween ride.

“Biketober is about more than riding bikes—it’s about elevating the benefits of biking and creating a sense of community,” said Chris Rome, Safety & Active Transportation Lead in Atlanta. “It’s a great way to encourage people to explore new ways to navigate the city while reducing emissions and improving overall well-being.”

Throughout the month, Atlanta staff also hosted educational events, including a lunch and learn session on the bike challenge and a bike commuter breakfast, where team members shared practical safety tips and personal commuting experiences. These sessions help raise awareness of VHB’s efforts to support active mobility within our communities.

VHB partners with clients and local agencies to make active transportation accessible for all. Orlando and Atlanta’s engagement in these signature events highlights VHB’s ongoing commitment to fostering vibrant, connected neighborhoods through impactful programs, community partnerships, and purposeful project delivery.
