The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) held its 2022 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala on June 29, celebrating the best engineering projects of the year. Often called "The Academy Awards of the Engineering World", awards are given to engineering achievements that demonstrate the highest degree of merit and ingenuity. VHB is proud to be recognized with three Silver Awards for Harvard University’s Science and Engineering Campus, the MassDOT Route 44 Over 24 Bridge Replacement, and the MBTA Robert Street Bridge Replacement, and a Bronze Award for the MassDOT Crescent Marsh project.

The new Science and Engineering Campus (SEC), located on Harvard’s Allston campus, integrates its engineering programs into a single 544,000-square-foot structure. VHB’s project team delivered the design, permitting, coordination, and construction support services on a rigorous schedule.

MassDOT selected the design-build team of VHB and SPS New England to replace the heavily travelled Route 44 over 24 Bridge. The use of innovative lateral slide technique shaved one year off construction and helped keep crews safe.

The Robert Street Bridge Replacement project improves safety and efficiency while also planning for future expansion. VHB provided services for the bridge, track, and roadway engineering, traffic control design, environmental permitting, and construction phase services.

To help restore tidal flow vital to survival of Crescent Marsh, VHB provided design, environmental permitting, and construction support for the addition of a culvert, which also serves as an outlet for stormwater.

Congratulations to all winners!
