For homeless families who have been forced to flee familiar neighborhoods, as well as friends and families, due to domestic violence, a safe, stable community is paramount. VHB partnered with New Destiny Housing Corporation to advance development of The Bryant, a 62-unit multifamily residential building with 37 apartments set aside for survivors of domestic violence. With community amenities and on-site services provided by a Family Support Program, residents will have the opportunity to participate in programs including safety planning, job readiness assistance, financial planning, and children and family wellness.
VHB worked with New Destiny to transform a contaminated property in the Bronx into affordable housing that would be safe for families. Our team investigated site soil, groundwater and soil vapor and developed the NYCDEP-approved Remedial Action Work Plan and Community Air Monitoring Plan to mitigate environmental impacts during construction. VHB monitored the installation of engineering controls, the excavation of soil contaminated with pesticides, metals, and semi-volatile organic compounds, and the installation of a soil vapor barrier.
Additionally, VHB worked closely with New Destiny to navigate the regulatory requirements specific to local, state, and federal environmental review processes (CEQR, SEQRA, and NEPA). This collaboration helped New Destiny meet the requirements of the reviewing agencies: the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Authority, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
