PANYNJ Regional Truck Origin-Destination Surveys

New York and New Jersey

When the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) looked to gather reliable information on commercial truck travel as part of an ongoing capital research program, they partnered with VHB to develop and facilitate the survey. Our team’s objectives were to identify future needs, monitor traffic volumes, and identify trends in travel at PANYNJ tunnel and bridge facilities. Our team was responsible for developing the survey instrument and for managing all aspects of survey administration, scheduling, and logistics. Conducting nearly 35,000 interviews of truck drivers, VHB summarized findings and delivered results to PANYNJ in a comprehensive report that identified current transportation trends as well as anticipated future needs.
