VHB supported the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) with updates to its Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP), which establishes a comprehensive blueprint for eliminating fatalities and serious injuries that result from crashes on the State’s roadways. The effort centered upon virtually facilitating interactive workshops and smaller group meetings among key safety partners statewide. These meetings brought together multidisciplinary participants from various government, law enforcement, academic, and advocacy organizations spanning across the four Es of transportation safety—Education, Enforcement, Emergency Services, and Engineering.
Following extensive crash data collection and analysis, VHB recommended Emphasis Areas—areas with the highest risk factors—and assisted stakeholders in developing supporting strategies and actions. After completing the SHSP, VHB supported the implementation of strategies and actions by organizing and facilitating quarterly stakeholder workshops.
