Three adjacent projects—North Old Carriage Road, Eastern Avenue, and Sunset Avenue—needed expansion to accommodate future growth and economic development opportunities along this populated corridor in Nash County, NC, that intersects with I-95. The projects included widening to a four-lane divided roadway with a raised median, 11 new roundabouts, a new interchange at I-95, and an upgrade to the interchange at US 64.
VHB provided project development and environmental review services, including the natural resources technical report, community study, traffic analyses, traffic noise analyses, and public involvement support. Innovative designs transformed the local transportation network to better align with the goals and visions of the local municipalities and to prepare this corridor for future development. VHB worked collaboratively with NCDOT’s Division 4 to meet an aggressive schedule and to confirm that schedules coincided.
