Fort Belvoir Master Plan and BRAC Support

Fairfax County, VA

To bring the U.S. Army’s vision of Fort Belvoir to life, Belvoir New Vision Planners was selected to develop a long-term master plan to help meet the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) implementation requirements and ultimately transform Fort Belvoir into a world-class facility. Located in densely populated Fairfax County and along the heavily traveled I-95 and Route 1 corridors, Fort Belvoir faced the challenge of integrating 22,000 new military personnel and national security organizations, while minimizing impacts to operations, the environment, and, most of all, traffic.

VHB supported the development of the Master Plan, Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and planning framework that guided the site development. VHB provided a variety of planning services and NEPA/EIS support as part of BRAC implementation requirements. Particularly critical to this project was the traffic analysis—successfully integrating a large number of new residents to base and understanding how it would impact the surrounding heavily traveled corridors.
