A 250-unit multifamily apartment complex, The Marek South unites quality of life and convenience. Its proximity to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Dartmouth College, and the tech industries of New Hampshire’s Upper Valley make it ideal for commuting professionals and graduate students. The complex’s rich amenities, which include a lounge bar, large fitness facility, yoga room, jacuzzi, and patio designed by VHB, are paired seamlessly with the surrounding woods and mountains, making it an unparallelled place to reside in the Upper Valley. The Advance Transit, a free bus system, conveniently connects The Marek South to Dartmouth College, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon city center, and downtown Hanover. The property also features electric vehicle chargers and bike racks—appealing options to multimodal commuters and sustainably minded residents.
Though VHB was initially tasked with creating preliminary concept plans for buildings, parking, wetlands, and site access, our role soon grew to include permitting, site planning, landscape architecture, and construction phase services to bring the residential building and its auxiliary amenity areas to life, including features like parking, utilities, and roadways.
VHB successfully navigated site design challenges posed by sensitive environmental areas and wildlife populations, incorporating two 300-foot-wide swaths of conservation land around the development to protect wildlife movements. We also collaborated with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) to relocate and restore an existing stream as a condition of the project’s NHDES Wetlands Permit.
Now that The Marek South is complete, Saxon Partners has engaged VHB for services relating to a potential expansion of the development.
