VHB’s Ron Hartman, Senior Project Manager of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and the Transportation Technology Group, was awarded the Joseph M. “Ron has been a leader in ITS for more than 20 years, both within and outside of VHB. He is a true titan in this field, bringing unmatched knowledge, experience, and expertise to transportation technology projects. He is a trusted adviser to MassDOT and RIDOT, who consistently turn to him with their most complex and challenging issues. Thanks to Ron’s leadership, our ITS practice helps create safer, more efficient, and more reliable transportation systems through technology,” said Anurag Agrawal, Director of Transportation Systems and Traffic Operations at VHB.

Among Ron’s ITS accomplishments, he has:

  • Designed more than 500 ITS equipment sites in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island
  • Designed one of the first managed lanes projects in the country
  • Designed the first wrong way vehicle detection projects in Rhode Island and Massachusetts
  • Held officer positions in NEITS, Rhode Island ITS, and Rhode Island Institute of Transportation Engineers

The award was presented at the NEITS Annual Interchange in Manchester, New Hampshire, on October 8.

“I’m honored to have been chosen for the Joseph M. Sussman Leadership Award,” said Hartman. “I am supported by an amazing team at VHB and have been fortunate to work with many incredible people in ITS from various state DOT partners, vendors, contractors, and consultants and to continue to learn on every project, which is what makes this field so extraordinary.”
