VHB is pleased to welcome Chris Rome, PE, PTOE, RSP1, as Safety and Active Transportation Lead for our Transportation Systems team in Georgia. Chris will collaborate with our traffic, transportation planning, transit, and design teams to develop innovative multimodal projects and plans that elevate safety, connect communities, and enhance economic opportunity across the state.

With more than 15 years of experience in multimodal engineering, planning, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS), Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record in enhancing transportation safety and efficiency for public sector and institutional clients. Chris will also support VHB’s National Safety Practice and work alongside active transportation teams across the East Coast to advance VHB’s prominence as a leader in safe mobility for all.

"Having Chris join VHB is a significant step forward in our commitment to transportation safety across the state for all users of our transportation system,” said Regan Hammond, AICP, Transportation Systems Director. “His deep understanding of what our Georgia residents and visitors need in multimodal systems and his commitment to safe mobility will be invaluable as we respond to the demands of a fast-growing region.”

Prior to joining VHB, Chris worked for the City of Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT). While there, he managed more than 115 engineering and urban street design projects, valued at $67 million in construction costs, with a focus on roadway safety and bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. He played a key role in advancing the engineering components of Atlanta’s Vision Zero program; which is a systems-based approach to eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries via safer street design, speed management, and other strategies.

Chris holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University (LSU). His professional affiliations include the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), where he is collaborating with stakeholders like the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to develop a Data-Driven Safety Analysis document for the ITE National Safety Council.

VHB has contributed to diverse significant transportation safety and mobility projects in Georgia, including the Georgia Rural Statewide Active Transportation Program and the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Regional Safety Strategy.
