Director of Transit & Environmental Planning for Metro DC, Lee Farmer, AICP, has been elected chair of the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) Planning and Program Development (PPD) Committee, further expanding her leadership within the public transportation industry. After previously serving as the committee's secretary and the co-chair of the Environmental Subcommittee, Lee will now help guide PPD’s strategic direction and priorities.
The PPD Committee brings together transportation planning and development professionals from across the country to advance planning, policy, and program development for transit and rail projects. The committee promotes environmental stewardship, supports effective project delivery, and provides leadership on emerging regulatory, funding, and project development issues facing the industry.
"APTA's Planning and Program Development Committee plays an important role in helping transportation agencies and industry partners share knowledge and advance solutions to complex project delivery challenges," said Lee Farmer. "I'm honored to serve as chair and look forward to collaborating with colleagues across the industry to support innovative, sustainable approaches that help transit agencies deliver projects that benefit communities and improve mobility."
At VHB, Lee helps lead complex transit and rail projects from planning through environmental review and preliminary engineering, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and stakeholder partnerships to move projects toward implementation. Her experience includes some of the Mid-Atlantic region's most transformative transportation investments, including Long Bridge, Crystal City to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Multimodal Connection (CC2DCA), VRE Crystal City Station, Crystal City Metrorail Station East Entrance, and Potomac Yard Metro Station—helping clients improve connectivity, accessibility, and mobility for the communities they serve.
Lee's election reflects her longstanding commitment to advancing transit and rail planning. Through her service with APTA, she will help foster collaboration among industry professionals and support the development of innovative, sustainable transportation solutions.
