State & Local Government

What I look for when I’m hiring: I look for go-getters who take initiative, stick around long enough to learn and solve tough problems, stay curious and brave when things get complex, and know how to truly collaborate—not just work side by side, but share ideas, effort, and success.

How I would describe my leadership style in three words: Supportive, Strategic, Collaborative

My go-to workday snack: Trail mix with dark chocolate chunks!

Managing Director

How I help others grow in their careers: I help others grow by opening doors through introductions, giving stretch assignments that push them forward, and turning mistakes into lessons that fuel the next success.

My daily motto: The Golden Rule – treat others as you would want to be treated by them.

How many alarms I set in the morning: I have a personal cell and work cell. I typically set two alarms 15 minutes apart on whichever phone has the most charge. On rare occasions, I will set an additional alarm on the other phone.

Traffic Operations

How I help others grow in their careers: I help my team grow by giving them a variety of projects and people to work with—broadening their skills, experience, and exposure to different ways of managing projects so they become even more versatile and valuable.

What it's like to work with me in one word: I asked my team for some ideas. They said supportive, transparent, detailed, and efficient.

Call, email, or text? Whatever works best.

Transit & Rail

The best part about leading a team: Being a part of the team—lifting others up and achieving new goals together.

The moment I knew I wanted to work in transit planning: I gave public transit a try when I first started as a land use planner. I hadn’t planned on pursuing transit as a long-term career, but once I had the chance to work with ridership data, I was hooked!

My mantra: I graduated from Virginia Tech, and the university’s motto is, Ut Prosim, which is a Latin motto meaning, “That I May Serve.” It’s a principle I ground myself in to lead a team that brings the best to the clients and communities we serve.

The best career advice I've received: Make your manager look good. It may sound simple, but it keeps you focused on your goals and pushes you to grow into the best engineer you can be.

My daily motto: Create a workplace that doesn’t feel like work. If people are excited and having fun, success follows. We spend a third of our lives working—enjoy it, and it will enrich both your career and your home life.

How I unwind after a busy day: I head outside with my kids. After hours in front of a computer, nothing beats sunshine, fresh air, and play to reset.

Transportation Planning

What I never leave the house without: My headphones. I like to catch up on audiobooks when I can.

How I would describe my leadership style in three words: Find solutions together.

My daily motto:  In any situation, there are at least two paths forward. If you can’t see a solution at first, look again.

Highway Design

My "I made it" moment: Earning my Certified Public Manager certificate was a fun, three-year journey that taught me how to better lead and support my team.

My hopes for the future of AEC: To help train the next generation of engineers by sharing the lessons I’ve learned so they can thrive in the transportation field.

What I recently read (or listened to): I read that the top reason people leave a job is their supervisor—so I make it a priority to listen, engage, and bring my team’s ideas into our projects.
