Draw One Bridge Replacement

Boston, MA

The MBTA’s Draw One Bridge Replacement and Associated Track & Signal Improvements project will modernize a critical rail gateway into Boston’s North Station. Working as lead designer with Skanska-Koch JV, VHB is supporting delivery of a new vertical lift bridge that will replace the aging structure and expand capacity from four to six tracks. The design-build project also includes track, signal, and operational upgrades along the corridor, as well as improvements at North Station. The integrated team includes Modjeski & Masters, Burns Engineering, and Haley & Aldrich. Together, the project improvements are designed to strengthen system performance, reliability, and resilience along one of Greater Boston’s most heavily used transportation corridors. By increasing rail capacity and improving the infrastructure that supports service into North Station, the project will help advance more reliable and sustainable mobility across the region.
