Burlington Downtown Transit Center

Burlington, VT

VHB partnered with the City of Burlington and Green Mountain Transit on the City’s new Downtown Transit Center (DTC) mobility hub. This modern, central facility is an attractive gateway for the transit system in Burlington and its surrounding municipalities that supports the area’s growing ridership and promotes economic development. The DTC’s features include a 250-foot-long, 17-foot-wide covered platform for 10 bus berths, a wi-fi accessible platform, and an enclosed climate-controlled lobby with ticket window, vending concessions and restrooms for passengers. Monitors with real-time tracking and displays assist passengers to and from their destination, along with transit priority traffic signals at entrances and exits to the facility to aid in on-time bus departures, all of which help to enhance the overall rider experience.

VHB led a team of professionals in architecture and security, as well as civil, mechanical, electrical, structural, and traffic engineering to deliver the project on time and under budget. The VHB team also worked closely with Burlington Public Works and the Burlington Electric Department to make certain the facility was carefully and thoughtfully integrated with the Burlington Downtown area in accordance with state and local accessibility requirements.

The new Downtown Transit Center serves as a gateway to the City of Burlington.
