Southeast Region Long-Range Transportation Plan

Southeast Region

It’s a balancing act: providing people with the opportunity to experience the beauty of something as amazing as the Florida Everglades, without destroying the delicate ecosystem in the process. VHB is working side-by-side with the NPS to do just that by exploring transportation options that connect people to the parks while leaving a light touch on the land. The long-range transportation plan will address asset management, pedestrian and bicycle needs, and transit programs within the National Parks, as well as priorities related to climate change, environmental preservation, and livability goals. With VHB’s assistance, NPS will more clearly understand the investments needed to support parks in the Southeast Region, which include some of the Nation’s treasures—such as the Everglades, Fort Sumter National Monument, the Great Smoky Mountains, the Blue Ridge and Natchez Trace Parkways, and Mammoth Caves.
