The Grow is Central Florida’s first Agrihood, a residential farm and garden community. VHB approached the neighborhood’s design by combining principles of healthy community design (HCD) and pedestrian-oriented design to create memorable, enduring neighborhoods that encourage an active, socially-engaged lifestyle. The Grow features a working farm, community gardens, and social amenities in an idyllic setting steeped in nostalgia and mindful of nature. Our team maximized pedestrian activity in safe, secure neighborhoods with little to no cut-through traffic. By reducing local streets, we were able to maintain development opportunities in a way that still increases pedestrian open space to offer more active lifestyle opportunities. This approach reduces the length of local streets, increases bike/pedestrian facilities, and increases open space while maintaining the development program.
