Assembly Row represents one of New England’s most prominent mixed-use transit-oriented developments (TOD): a five-million-square-foot, riverfront neighborhood built around the Orange Line station that anchors the district. Federal Realty Investment Trust transformed this underutilized industrial parcel into a thriving, walkable neighborhood that integrates housing, employment, retail, and public amenities within steps of rapid transit.
VHB worked alongside Federal Realty and multiple stakeholders to develop a comprehensive master plan—including onsite roadways and new utility infrastructure—that would sustain a decade-long development project. We continue to manage design and permitting in support of Federal Realty’s growth goals for this transit-oriented development. Assembly Row’s multimodal network, active public realm, and high-intensity land uses directly support increased transit ridership, reduced vehicle dependence, and vibrant economic activity.
