Wawa

Central Florida

Wawa is a top 40 convenience store chain in the United States. Its Central Florida expansion marked a strategic move to enter a high-growth tourism market outside of its traditional Mid-Atlantic base. VHB was engaged as a preferred consultant when Wawa put its Florida expansion program on the fast track. Our role as a single-source provider for traffic analysis, environmental services, planning, and civil engineering was instrumental in executing Wawa’s aggressive timeline of opening 60 stores in three years.

To support Wawa's goals, site selection was crucial. Drawing on our retail experience in the region, VHB expeditiously analyzed competitor locations and traffic patterns, which provided Wawa with valuable insights for optimal site selection. We facilitated rapid site evaluations, devised efficient test-fit plans, and prepared traffic studies for the Florida Department of Transportation and local government approval. Following site approval, we implemented final design plans in compliance with local regulations. Our development timelines addressed permitting requirements across several Central Florida communities. Our engagement in community presentations enhanced Wawa’s local brand image, aiding in the smooth progression of the permitting process—a vital component of Wawa's overall strategy.
