The Partners HealthCare (now Mass General Brigham) team engaged VHB to provide site selection, survey, design, permitting, and construction-phase services for a new 65,000-square-foot high-powered data center. Located on a steeply sloping 22.5-acre site, the two-story facility delivers additional and redundant computing capacity to support system-wide operations and secure data access.
VHB’s site design encompassed layout, grading, stormwater management, utilities, and landscape architecture. Key solutions included siting the building to work with the challenging topography while maintaining redundant vehicular access; developing a comprehensive stormwater management system and site layout that enhance storm resiliency and protect adjacent environmental resource areas; and coordinating closely with the client, MEP engineers, and local utility provides to implement robust, redundant electric and telecommunications systems, including multiple electric and WAN feeds.
