AstraZeneca

Waltham and Weston, MA

This research campus reflects AstraZeneca’s commitment to developing an environment for leading-edge research and drug discovery. AstraZeneca was drawn to the site in Waltham for its natural beauty and proximity to New England technological, business, and academic centers. VHB was engaged early in the development of the campus. With a 10-year history on the site, we pushed through an intense environmental effort, protecting adjacent wetlands and nearby water supply sources while preserving the natural features of the surrounding New England woodlands. VHB worked closely with the architect to fit the buildings harmoniously into the site—taking advantage of the natural environment and the light. The result was a research campus that fosters connectivity between the scientists and the natural environment.

Astra-Zeneca’s multi-building campus is backed by natural woodlands. A man walks toward the main entrance of the Astra-Zeneca campus. An outdoor dining area is shaded by trees on Astra-Zeneca’s research campus.
