How do you shoehorn a huge expansion on a tight site in an urban location? VHB’s professional problem solvers rolled up their sleeves to accept the challenge for The Broad Institute. With a forged partnership with the City and a strong relationship with the owner’s development manager, Boston Properties, VHB worked with the team to provide a design that worked on a highly constrained site. To add to the challenge, the project had to incorporate measures to address shortfalls in the capacity of the local municipal infrastructure. The expansion was built over and adjacent to an existing garage that needed to remain in use through construction.
