Taystee Lab is an 11-story life sciences building developed on the site of the former Taystee Bakery. Located in the Manhattanville Factory District—a center of academic excellence—this new development repositioned an underutilized site into a center for research. As part of the West Harlem Innovation Triangle, Taystee Lab is spurring economic growth in this area’s thriving biotech sector.
VHB provided remedial action oversight and managed regulatory compliance throughout the redevelopment. Our team delivered a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and performed a comprehensive subsurface investigation of the groundwater, site soil and vapor, in accordance with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Environmental Remediation (OER) E-Designation requirements. In addition, we developed and implemented a Remedial Action Plan, guiding the site towards achieving a Track One Cleanup and a New York City Green Property Certification. By identifying and addressing site conditions early on, we helped to unlock the site’s development potential.
