Canon Technology Center

Newport News, VA

Canon Virginia, Inc.’s $650 million investment in a new “Marketing Emerging Technology Center” represented Canon’s commitment to the region and partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia. This center was the first of several expansions planned as part of its “Visions for the Future” program. The Virginia Community College System partnered with Canon to create this training and development program, enabling the company to develop a best-in-class recruiting program and workforce pipeline. To meet critical construction schedules, Canon retained a design-build team to deliver the 709,000‑square‑foot manufacturing facility focused on printer cartridge production and camera and camcorder repairs. VHB worked closely with Baskervill and Clancy & Theys Construction Company to drive the development plan for this 40-acre site, designing the utilities and infrastructure required to meet the expedited schedule. Our integrated team delivered the new facility within 13 months of getting the notice to proceed. This was one of the largest economic development projects in the City of Newport News, which generated more than 1,000 new jobs in five years.
